Job Description

NATURE OF WORK

An employee in this class performs complex duties in the operation, repair and maintenance of the vehicles in the school transportation program – including buses and automobiles. Most work is performed based on prior experience. The employee is expected to diagnose and resolve problems of medium difficulty with little assistance while others may be referred to a supervisor. The employee receives general supervision and work is occasionally reviewed while in progress.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of school bus operation and maintenance.
Skills to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement, and vehicle body repair.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to complete appropriate documentation of repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
Ability to physically perform repairs and complete other related duties.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Sufficient education and experience to demonstrate knowledge and abilities.
Experience with diesel engines and air brakes is mandatory.
Must attain/maintain NC School Bus Inspection Certification.
Must attain/maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (minimum Class B w/ Passenger, School Bus, & Tanker endorsements).
