401K, Health benefits and insurance Job Description•Signals and Communications Maintainer The Signals and Communications Maintainer will report to the Supervisor or Superintendent responsible for the geographical location of the assigned project. The Communications Maintainer may work in a group or independently depending on the needs of the particular task assigned and may be away from home for extended periods of time to install, maintain, replace and repair electrical and electronic communications equipment for railway systems. Key Responsibilities Work safe and provide a quality product Install, maintain, replace, and check communication equipment including cables, computers, printers, monitors, radios, telephones, modems, wireless components, security cameras, batteries, connectors, various parts and testing equipment plus other task as assigned Cut, splice, and pull cable on form ground, poles, bucket trucks, and towers Use trenching equipment to bury equipment and cables in ground Receive and record inventory delivery Retrieve parts from inventory to install and maintain equipment Transport tools and equipment to jobsite by truck Install wiring in offices and field locations Assist in administration and documentation of REMCAN policies, plans and procedures Comply with FRA roadway worker protection standards, railway operating rules, and safe work procedures (REMCAN and external stakeholders or respective clients) Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) Including but not limited to Steel Toe Boots, Safety Glasses, Reflective Apparel, Hearing Protection, Gloves, Etc. Work outdoors at railroad construction sites, including in harsh weather conditions, and on occasion in confined spaces or at elevated heights Work in steep ballast conditions, on unlevel ground May be required to work nights, holidays and weekends. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage. Must adhere to AREMA and customer’s engineering standards. Position Requirements High School Diploma/GED required Valid Driver’s License required Complete training and pass safety rules as determined by REMCAN Ability to obtain and maintain a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License prior to start date Reliable Transportation to get from residence to job site Ability to lift/push/pull 75 lbs Ability to stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection Ability to climb ladders and poles up to at least 40 feet and perform work from a bucket truck to make repairs, tests and installations Equipment restrictions mandate that an incumbent must not exceed the 300lb equipment capacity limits (including 15lb of required tools) to safely perform the job duties Must meet color vision requirements as described in the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Regulations Pass eRailsafe background check and DOT pre-employment drug test Comfortable with travelling 90% of the time Strong organizational, verbal, and electronic communication skills Ability to read and understand company policies and procedures Ability to multitask and handle multiple deadlines with changing priorities Ability to perform basic math functions Proficient in Microsoft Suites Be self-motivated and driven with a strong adherence to safety rules and regulations Ability to work independently and to work as part of a team Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement preferred FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License preferred Experience operating heavy equipment preferred Two year technical degree or equivalent experience in network management preferred Ability to read Electrical blueprints preferred The listed above job description may not represent all the duties and responsibilities that may be required of this position.
