$50,633.00•$88,607.00 Internal Posting•Only Permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF Priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 may apply. Position will assist the Division Roadside Environmental Engineer to ensure contracts for Rest Area Maintenance, Selective Vegetation Management, Landscape Installation and Maintenance, Litter, Mowing, Long Arm Mowing, Tree Cutting, Guardrail Trimming, and Bridge Bushing are prepared and administered correctly. Additional oversight may include asset inventory management, mapping, and contract development. Position will provide supervision and technical guidance to subordinate supervisors, technicians, and inspection workers to ensure successful delivery of work plan, providing prompt response to maintenance needs in the delivery of the Roadside Environmental Unit’s Program. Additional responsibilities of position will include, but is not limited to, reviewing daily inspection reports, plan review, scheduling personnel, developing agreements, project field reviews, contract payment review, and handling customer service inquiries. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of both roadside and maintenance operations within NCDOT
Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and procedures
Experience working with project plans, pay item quantities, proposals, estimates and basic landscape guidelines
Experience in supervision, reviewing daily inspection reports, scheduling project personnel and project field reviews
Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
Additional Expectations:
Possess a thorough knowledge of State and/or Federal Rules and Regulations for Roadside Environmental Units to ensure compliance and provide guidance/interpretation. Ability to independently conduct complex inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards/codes and specifications. Serve as technical expert. Work independently to accomplish daily tasks. Supervise assist, and train lower-level employees. Communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, and the general public. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished. Must be able to apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including high traffic volumes, extreme temperatures, and inclement weather. Must be able to traverse rough and uneven terrain. Work subject to emergency situations and occasional nights and weekends. Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
