JHNA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Airworthiness Engineer to support the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) with airworthiness confirmation for Flight Controls systems, with a focus on both hardware (H/W) and software (S/W) changes. This role requires close collaboration with various contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure software modifications meet airworthiness and system performance requirements. This is a remote role with limited travel required to customer site at Patuxent River, MD.
Roles/Responsibilities:
Review software changes and supporting documentation provided by Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Flight Controls Redundancy Management (FCRM) and Flight Control Initiated Built-In Test (FCIBIT) subsystems.
Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the system and software design for both FCRM and FCIBIT.
Participate in SPAR (Software/System Problem Action Request) boards to track software issues and planned updates.
Analyze requirement changes and assess impacts on Software Qualification Test Descriptions (SQTDs) and associated test reports for each software release.
Document analysis results in internal Configuration Memoranda.
Compare each new FCRM or FCIBIT software release against the baseline version, identify all differences, and correlate those differences with newly implemented functions and SPAR-driven changes.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
Must have an active Secret clearance.
10+ years’ experience in control law design and analysis of fixed wing aircraft, redundancy management of safety critical, flight control systems of fixed wing aircraft, flight control system integration testing (including simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, on-aircraft).
Must be familiar with standards and practices associated with design, development and certification of flight control systems used for fixed wing manned and unmanned (Group 4 and above) aircraft.
Must be technically strong, capable of working both independently and as part of a small, empowered team and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Qualification Desired:
Experience with standards and practices (JSSG-2008, MIL-STD-9490, AS94900, ARP94910, MIL-STD-882 and MIL-HBK-516 or equivalent)
Unmanned system experience
Model based design using Matlab or Matrix X (block diagram to code)
Experience with contingency management
