Overview:
SUPERVISOR TRAIN CONTROL SYSTEMS JOB SUMMARY
The Train Control Systems Supervisor oversees the operational integrity and performance of Florida Dispatch Co.’s Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS), Positive Train Control (PTC), Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), Scout voice radio dispatch system, and other field control and reporting systems. You will collaborate with dispatchers, system vendors, and contractors to resolve technical issues, procure necessary services, and maintain essential databases. Additionally, the Supervisor provides technical support and training to employees, oversees administrative duties, and ensures adherence to all FRA safety and regulatory requirements
Responsibilities:
Oversee and assist with the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of wayside defect detectors, Automatic Equipment Identification (AEI) readers, Network Video Recorders (NVRs), and IP cameras. Maintain the Signal, Dig & Locate (SDL) database, coordinate with contractors, and issue SDLs as needed to locate signal wires and fiber optic cables. Collaborate with system vendors to support Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS), Positive Train Control (PTC), Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), Scout dispatch, and local voice recorder systems. Work closely with dispatchers to troubleshoot and resolve system issues, logging unresolved problems in the Wabtec ticket reporting portal (Salesforce). Manage the procurement of wireless services, including cellular and paging, for the FECR system. Provide technical assistance and training to subordinate employees. Oversee administrative tasks necessary for the efficient operation and reporting of electronic systems. Ensure compliance with all railroad safety and operational regulations, including those set by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Participate in team discussions, including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings, and process reviews. Assist colleagues as needed in the performance of their professional duties.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree (AA) from a Technical College with an emphasis in Electronics At least 5 years of signal maintenance and signal communication work experience Must have a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field of study 7 or more years of signal maintenance and signal communication work experience Supervisory experience to include training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications -both general and technical). Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) to include working with various vendors and service providers as a partner, more than a customer. Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills). Mathematical skills to include probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, and ratios . Adapt to current practices and research for improvements. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Observe, perform, and interact with others in a singular and objective manner to solve issues. Demonstrate Basic Database skills (MS ACCESS and Cloud Based). Demonstrate Basic Spreadsheet skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
25% travel required Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work including after hours support of the Dispatch system and associated networks. The applicant selected for this position will be required to successfully complete a background check and drug test. Demonstration of basic database and spreadsheet skills. Passing results must be received prior to starting date in new position. Heavy work, lifting up to 100 pounds. Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb/crawl/work under raised floor on an occasional basis. Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Walking over uneven terrain and getting on and off equipment. Wipe down and vacuum electronic equipment. Assist in Fire Prevention and supervise fire alarm inspections.
