Job Description:
Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc. headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Control Room Operator to work in Pittsburgh, PA, and unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location. This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. Accountabilities The Control Room Operator will be responsible for overseeing control train operations, maintenance vehicles, and remote equipment.
Specific duties include:
(1) ensuring service continuity in normal operation while carrying out test and commissioning activities; (2) monitoring status of station equipment (e.g. SCADA, E&M, AFC, FDAS, etc.) and providing appropriate interventions for alarms and malfunctions; (3) ensuring the monitoring and control of all train movements within the assigned automatic train control area are compliant with established schedules, procedures, and safety protocols; (4) ensuring provision of information with control center, station personnel, on-board trains, and other departments using radio, telephone, and other communication systems to relay information and issue instructions; (5) enforcing compliance with safety rules, regulations, and policies; (6) responding promptly and effectively to emergencies, breakdowns, and incidents such as medical emergencies, fires, accidents, and security threats; (7) monitoring and supervision of low, medium and high voltage switchboards as well as local and remote control and operation of electrical substations; (8) coordinating service start-up and shutdown with commissioning engineers, train operators, stewards, and other personnel to facilitate smooth and punctual train operations in support of commissioning activities; (9) designing, implementing, and reviewing training materials and courses for staff and contractors related to Construction Rail Operations Rules (CROR); and (10) using software applications to retrieve and analyze system information, other test related data. Required Skills/ Knowledge Must have experience with: (1) railway operations; (2) train operation controls (train supervision, train regulation, or manual route setting); (3) incident handling, emergency evacuation and associated activities in a control room environment; and (4) the installation, testing, operations and maintenance of electrical traction power systems equipment for direct current propulsion of rapid transit operations or industrial power distribution.
Must have knowledge of:
(1) train control system operations, rules, regulations, and safety protocols including Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO); (2) railway safety rules and regulations including Tracks Allocation and Work Permits, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and Access to Tracks and Foul Time; and (3) technologies including signaling system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, traction power distribution system, platform screen doors/gates system, and automatic fare collection system.
Education/Qualifications Must have:
(1) a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Communications Engineering or related field and (2) Five Years of experience in a control operations position within the railway industry.
