PURPOSE OR MISSION

Safely transport wheelchair bound patients to desired destination. Performs job duties appropriately for the age population served as defined in the department’s scope of service.

JOB FUNCTIONS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Functions in common situations with the understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being. Understands body substance isolation. Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Understands when to escalate for advanced life support (ALS) Complete patient transport forms, insurance forms and all other forms in a competent and timely manner. 2. Operates Handicap Van

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Determines that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by checking items required by service management and in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations and standards; and in accordance with Baton Rouge General policies and guidelines. Monitor communication equipment to maintain contact and promptly respond to instructions and calls given by dispatcher. Coordinates requests for non-emergent transports in accordance with dispatch guidelines. Operates handicap van in a safe manner and with controlled speed, in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations and standards; and in accordance with Baton Rouge General policies and guidelines. Functions with knowledge of wheelchair lift, and proper lifting techniques. Decontaminates the handicap van following treatment of any patient. Ensures the handicap van is clean, washed, and kept in a neat, orderly condition. Checks, restocks, and maintains inventory on the handicap van each shift. 3. Perform additional responsibilities and routine tasks as needed.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Representing the organization while on duty at public events. Will perform additional duties as assigned to allow for smooth and efficient operation of Baton Rouge General Ambulance & Van Transport Service.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Some experience in a medical setting preferred

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Louisiana Class D Chauffer’s License BLS-Basic Life Support/CPR Physically capable of performing job Clean driving record Knowledge of Louisiana traffic laws and proper driving techniques. Some prior knowledge of layout of assigned territory preferred. Able to understand and carry out instructions; able to comprehend and follow traffic signs. Able to transport assigned materials from building to vehicle and vice-versa. Dependable and motivated to complete duties without constant supervision.

HIPAA REQUIREMENTS

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and/or 3rd party billing, patient-related complaints, research information, employee health records and/or employee prescriptions.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification. At least 18 years old CPR Certification (BRG will provide class within 60 days of hire date) Louisiana Chauffeur’s Driver’s License
