The purpose of this job is to provide accounting services to the county within the department of finance regarding accounts payable, accounts receivable, budget, and general ledger functions.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists with daily transactional posting (includes assisting departmental managers with any expenditure and revenue account discrepancies and procurement related issues).
Completes required daily journal entries for proper general ledger accounting (including banking items, credit cards, batch sales, and expenditure realignment).
Reviews budget variances and communicates with Finance Deputy / Director to assist with needed budget transfers.
Assists in the preparation of the annual audited financial statement under the direction of the Accounting Manager and or Finance Deputy/ Director.
Maintains departmental coordination with other accountant to ensure sufficient insurance coverage of all county property. Assists with claims for timely submittal. Maintain fixed asset records within automated Finance system.
5% Other duties as assigned such as special projects or assisting with backup duties resulting from personnel time off or seasonal customer increases within the Finance office.
Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):
Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in accounting, budgeting or government finance required to effectively perform the positions responsibilities or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job (CPA, CMA, CIA, CFP, CPB).
Microsoft experience (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Excellent communication and people skills.
Excellent working knowledge with Finance/Accounting software, technology, and trends.
Knowledge of compliance standards with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB), and federal, state and County policies.
Physical requirements and working environment:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, copier, telephone, and communications equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing,talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.
Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments.
Other:
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchester's safe driving policy.
