Emily grew up in the Upstate of South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina to pursue her Bachelor’s in Education specializing in science education. After teaching middle and high school physical science for several years, she shifted her focus to helping students connect to opportunities beyond high school. Emily joined Tallo’s team in 2018 and works directly with schools, districts, educational organizations, and state entities that utilize the Tallo platform to build an ecosystem of connections for students within their network.

Tara Smith, Academic Recovery Interventionist, Laurens County School District 55
Hear from Tara at Laurens County School District 55 on how they use Tallo to help with student goal planning, career pathway development and writing and achieving goals throughout their high school career.
Tara Smith is a proud Sumter, South Carolina native. Tara has 19 years of experience as an educator, having worked in a number of public and private settings with a wide range of student populations ranging from K12 to adult education. She’s earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Morris College and a master’s degree in education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College. She presently works as the high school’s Academic Recovery Interventionist for Laurens County School District 55. She previously worked as a District Career Specialist for Richland School District Two in Columbia, SC, where she focused on high school students who wanted to pursue careers in engineering and/or computer science.

Christopher Webber, CTE/WBL Program Manager, Cyber Academy of South Carolina

Christopher Webber is the CTE/WBL Program Manager at the Cyber Academy of South Carolina. He has served in education for over two decades and has a vested interest creating opportunity and access points for all students. From his humble beginnings teaching the 5th grade at a small private school in Oregon, to some of his more visceral ambitions as a wildfire instructor and crew leader, Chris attributes his greatest experiences to the human connections, which are essential to building relationships and establishing trust as the cornerstone for interpersonal communication and information assimilation. Chris works to build and maintain collaborative and collegial relationships with teachers, staff, and administrators at CASC, while acting as a conduit to link the school to business partners throughout South Carolina. His primary goal is to empower students to embrace their gifts, amplify their potential, and improve their access to emerging opportunities.

Eileen Patonay, Regional Workforce Advisor, South Carolina Department of Commerce
Hear from Eileen at South Carolina Department of Commerce on how Tallo has helped achieve goals for the SCDC’s Regional Workforce Advisors.
Eileen Patonay is the Regional Workforce Advisor for the South Carolina Department of Commerce serving Waccamaw Region-Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties. She is a member of the National Career Development Association and has been named Global Career Development Facilitator of the Year and South Carolina Office of Career and Technical Education Career Specialist of the Year. She also successfully completed the South Carolina Economic Development Institute.
Eileen has over 20 years of experience in Education, focusing on Career Development and Education, from Kindergarten to Adult Education. Her passion is creating an educated pipeline of employees and future employees by growing our economy and strengthening schools in the state of South Carolina. Eileen has a rich background in Career Program Management and developing Education and Business Partnerships to build bridges that enhance education and boost economic development. In addition, Eileen has expertise in Articulating Career Pathways and conducting Job Readiness Workshops that focus on soft skills training.
