Work Location:
This is an in-office position located in Millersville, Maryland. Remote or hybrid work is not available. The successful candidate must be available to answer telephones between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. About the Office The Office of the Chapter 13 Trustee functions in essence as a law firm and accounting firm, administering 1/3 of the chapter 13 bankruptcy cases filed in the State of Maryland. We currently have a case load of approximately 3,500 active cases. The Chapter 13 Trustee is a fiduciary; accordingly, qualified candidates must provide references and have a clean criminal background. A credit or background check can be obtained to evaluate the candidate suitability and qualifications for employment with the Trust Operation. Job Summary The Receptionist/Junior Claims Administrator provides both front office reception and claims support (data entry) for the Chapter 13 Trustee's Office. This position answers incoming telephone calls, generally from debtors, attorneys, creditors, and court personnel. As this staff member becomes familiar with Chapter 13 bankruptcy procedures and office practices, they will be expected to answer routine questions whenever possible before transferring calls to other staff members. Provides procedural and administrative information only and does not give legal advice. This individual will be expected to multi-task performing claims and administrative duties while handling calls. We are looking for a dependable team player who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping others, and can thrive in a fast-paced office. Prior experience handling high-volume telephone calls in a professional setting is strongly preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Answer and direct incoming telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner. Enter and process proofs of claim under the direction of senior staff. Assist with claims review, record maintenance, and other claims-related duties. Open, sort, and process incoming U.S. mail. Receive and distribute office supplies. Scan, file, and maintain electronic and paper records. Assist with mailings and other general clerical duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous office experience preferred. Prior customer service experience involving high-volume telephone work, reception, a call center, or a similar position is strongly preferred. Bankruptcy or legal office experience is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided, and the successful candidate must be willing to learn our office procedures and Chapter 13 bankruptcy practices. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel). Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Ability to adapt easily to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, professionalism and excellent customer service in a fast-paced office environment.
