Overview of the Scenic Carpenter Overhire The Scenic Carpenter Overhire is a casual temporary role that supports the Set Building Team to meet production requirements while maintaining a safe, positive work environment. Overhires will be called in to work daily
  • weekly assignments on an as needed basis.
This is an hourly position and must be able to work overtime, evenings, and occasionally weekends. Tasks include but not limited to: set wall construction, trim carpentry, wood shop maintenance, striking and installation of sets, and basic surface preparation and painting. Responsibilities Read and interpret build plans from the Lead Builder and follow build plans and cut lists to construct scenery as directed. Fabricate set pieces such as flats, windows, doors, and trim work using standard stationary and handheld woodworking tools Prepare scenery for paint treatments and basic scenic painting Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment across the photo studios, set shop, paint shop, and storage areas. Strike and install photo sets in a safe, efficient manner to meet production deadlines and the daily needs of photo studio scenery changes Uphold all shop safety requirements, shop maintenance procedures, and production processes Collaborate and problem solve with Set Building team members, photo studios, and operations teams investigate challenges and troubleshoot solutions Other duties as assigned Criteria 2+ years experience in carpentry, commercial fabrication, or related experience Comprehensive knowledge of standard stationary woodworking machinery and handheld wood working tools Working knowledge of set building materials. Comprehensive knowledge of safe woodshop operation and procedures Experience with paint surface preparation. Other scenic painting, paint spraying, or wallpapering abilities are a plus Ability to problem solve and time manage projects individually or with a team Ability to adapt workflow to changing priorities and production schedules Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills to maintain a professional environment Ability to wear proper PPE, including safety glasses, ear protection, and respirators for multiple hours a day Ability to move and/or lift up to 50 lbs; heavier structures with team assist Operate a computer and communicate via telephone Consistent, punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
